Study Site

Vineyard – Falcon Hill Santa Cruz, CA

Study Goals

To decrease turfgrass maintenance costs, deter wildlife and invasive vegetation.

Study Summary

Jim Adkisson has a 4 acre vineyard on the slopes of the Branciforte Creek watershed in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Plagued with erosion problems, he scattered seed January 2018 in the most troublesome areas above his Bocce court. He’s been quite impressed with the results. No erosion, no irrigation, no mowing, some minor weed maintenance and overseeding – he’s ready to do the entire vineyard Fall of 2019.

“I didn’t do any preparation, I just broadcast the seed on the ground without any preparation in areas where I wanted it to grow. It came to life and has tremendously helped our erosion problem.”
