FlightTurf® Other Applications

Effective wildlife control and invasive vegetation management.

FlightTurf® has many other applications. These include roadsides, median strips, utility transmission corridor rights-of-way, rail lines, bridge embankments, parks, campuses, cemeteries and other low traffic areas where wildlife control, reduced maintenance, slope stabilization, and unmown turf grass areas are desirable.

The common point in all of these applications relates to maintenance. FlightTurf® was developed to deter wildlife. The major value in addition to this is the cost benefit of reduced vegetation management. Occasional use of herbicides to control weeds and reseeding to maintain a thick stand becomes the process over a course of many growing seasons. We know that many Maintenance and Operations organizations public and otherwise can be very reticent to accept dramatic changes to the operational process – particularly if full time mowing is part of that process. Consider that the need for mowing is reduced gradually as the FlightTurf® grows in to a thick healthy stand over a period of years. This frees up people and resources to accomplish other tasks and efforts that better benefit everyone and our environment. This doesn’t put people out of jobs – it alters their daily tasks and makes them available for more meaningful results.

FlightTurf® key benefits for various applications.

  • Median areas: FlightTurf® growing on median areas reduces the need for maintenance. Mowing, appearance, and wildlife deterrents are all values delivered.
  • Roadsides: Herbicide reduction, mowing, wildlife deterrent.
  • Transmission line rights of way and substations: Herbicide reduction, mowing, aesthetic enhancement.
  • Railway corridor line: Slope stabilization, herbicide reduction, brush cutting reduction, vegetation control.

PSE&G – Transmission corridor & substations – New Jersey

Seeking reduced maintenance and mowing costs while keeping the attractive turfgrass appearance, PSE&G converts residential-area transmission corridor lawn to FlightTurf®.

Case Study

Bayer Environmental Sciences – Research Triangle Park, NC

Bayer multi year evaluation comments: Quality was excellent and color continued to increase. Both plots looked healthy. Quality of mowed turf was slightly higher than unmowed turf.
